Melbin began dancing at the age of 20 with the City Ballet of Calhoun.  Growing up in Cancun, Mexico, his innate talent and flair for latin rhythms was recognize by a prominent Atlanta studio who helped to launch his career in competitive ballroom dancing.

Competing in numerous competitions each year, Melbin has become one of the top professional rhythm dancers in the United States.  In 2016, Melbin and his student became the reigning world dance champions in the silver category at the prestigious Ohio Star Ball, having already won the United States Dance Championships in 2015 and the World Dance Championships bronze category in 2014.  In addition to his success as a dancer, Melbin has been consecutively ranked as one of the top dance instructors in the United States, garnering him respect and recognition from leading judges and peers.

Melbin believes in giving back to the Georgia communities that have given so much to him by volunteering his time to events hosted by the Arthritis Foundation, United Way of North Georgia, American Cancer Society, and the Alzheimer’s Association.  He is certainly no stranger to Dancing with the Stars Atlanta, having won the 2013 and 2015 competitions with dance partners Mayor Shirley Franklin and DeAnne Cagle-Heckert.

Melbin’s energy and passion for dance can be felt on and off the floor.  His knowledge, talent, and his infectious personality make learning to dance great fun for students of all ages.  Rarely does he ever stop dancing, but when he does you can often find him running or channeling his Zen during yoga.
